The Film Lab

We train actors and directors to master every aspect of the camera.

What is The Film Lab?

The Film Lab is an intensive, hands-on workshop for actors and directors, designed to sharpen your cinematic skills through practice and real-world experience. Over a weekend, participants collaborate to shoot professionally filmed scenes, learning both in front of and behind the camera. You’ll gain firsthand experience working as actor and crew, understanding how to act for the camera, work with lenses and lighting, and execute the technical aspects of filmmaking. By the end of the workshop, these scenes are crafted into a short film—providing a tangible showcase of your work and growth.

What You’ll Do at The Film Lab

  • Shoot cinematic scenes that become a short film
  • Work with RED cameras, cinematic lenses, and pro gear
  • Train your craft both in front of and behind the camera
  • Receive fully edited, color-graded, sound-mixed scenes for reels.
  • Film in-studio and on-location.
  • Collaborate, experiment, and create community and networking.

The Film Lab is available for individuals in New York whenever GCP opens registration, running periodically throughout the year. It’s also available for festivals, institutions, acting schools, and companies interested in bringing The Film Lab experience to their community—both in New York and nationwide.
